Steve & Alicia's Forest Wedding Box

The Story

Steve and Alicia are avid campers, and in fact their first date was at Cabela's. They camp in their RV whenever they get the chance, year-round. So when it came to choosing a wedding venue, it made sense that they would extend this love to a small set of family and friends, and infuse their wedding with forest, campfire, and s'mores vibes at one of their favorite campgrounds' group camp site. An even smaller subset of friends and family would spend the nights before and after camping with them, and then more folks would join for the day's festivities there in camp.

The dilemma~ they have tons of friends and family across the country... not only non-campers, but the site could accommodate only a small number of people. How could they include people far away in the festivities and make them feel a part of this special day, and of their story, to be sent out after the wedding?

I dreamed a little dream with Alicia about what this could look like... the things that were important in conveying the day, and the feeling of being there.

The Box

If you know Alicia, you know she loves purple. You also know that she is a cancer survivor, and one of the most joyous people you could hope to meet. And you know that she and Steve waited a long time to find each other, and that their love is even more special because of all that they have overcome. The wedding-in-the-woods was a fun, informal day of celebration, bookended by camping and gathering for meals around the campfire. In fact, the campfire was going during the reception, and people partook of a s'mores bar and roasting marshmallows, and left with a s'mores favor box.

The Boxilocks box itself included a picture of them at the altar, and "Our Adventure Begins" on the outside... with their names and wedding date on the front inside wall as you open the box.

Their box contents included:

A Story Card that included a brief summary of the atmosphere of the day, and pictures.
Smore's Candy ~ In a cooler season, this would be two Chuao Chocolatier S'mores mini-candy bars. Alternate for warmer season would have been S'mores Jelly Bellies.
A National Parks forest-scented candle ~ honoring their love of camping, as well as providing recipients with a bit of the atmosphere of the event
A wildflower seed packet that called to mind the flowers that were part of the setting, as well as giving an opportunity to think of this day when recipient-planted seeds bloom and grow later
An Anytime Photo Ornament that featured two pics of the couple on their wedding day

The Response

This was a case-study sample box, so recipients were Alicia and Steve, their parents, and a few friends and relatives. There were happy tears as they experienced the day by opening and enjoying the box.
