The Story
George led a long and good life. As he aged, he expressed to the executor of his estate that he did not want a gathering to celebrate his life. He felt his life itself had been a celebration; and he was not one to make a fuss, or put others out with travel expenses, etc. But knowing that there were many who loved him, he gave license to create a mailing announcement to let people know in the event of his passing.
This story and box are a vision of his life, with bits of history that might not be known to those who met him later in life, and stories that might well be known, and bring a smile to faces as they harkened back to memories of him telling them.
The Box
George was a humble man of service with a great love for his wife Lucy. He created family in gathering people to his home, as well as participated in contributions of time to his community. He was a generous soul, sharing what he had, and enjoyed quiet time outdoors to refresh his spirit.
The Boxilocks box for him began with a nod to both his love of board games, and his indomitable positive spirit... with a bible phrase that those who knew him felt very much expressed the summary of his life visible upon opening.
His box contents included:
Story Card that told a eulogy mix of history and story.
Candy ~ George always had root beer and butterscotch hard candies in his jacket pocket - for himself, and for sharing. These tastes are very much associated with him to those who knew him and bring him to mind.
Fishing lures ~ Honoring his love of quiet fishing and encouraging recipients to engage in one of his pastimes, two hookless lures allowed recipients to use one and think of him, while still having one as a keepsake.
Scrabble tile tray, and tiles that spelled out his name. A fun display to bring George to mind, as he and Lucy were known for their board game nights.
Anytime Photo Ornament that featured him in his younger days, and a recent pic.
The Response
This was a case-study sample box, so George was fictitious. But we think he'd be pleased.
